How to Unpack, Shape and Care for a Foam Bean Bag Chair

Foam-filled lounge seating may arrive compressed, so the first setup matters. The safest approach is to unpack carefully, give the foam room to recover and follow the exact upholstery-care label instead of assuming a universal recovery time or cleaning method.

1. Unpack it in the room where you plan to use it

If the package is large, moving it into the intended room before full expansion can make setup easier. Clear enough floor space for the chair and any footrest.

2. Protect the upholstery when opening the package

Use cutting tools cautiously and keep blades away from the fabric. Remove outer packaging gradually rather than cutting deeply into compressed layers.

3. Gently shape the foam

Once released, gently work the chair into its intended form. Do not rely on a fixed “24-hour” or “48-hour” promise: recovery can vary with compression, temperature, packaging time and the exact foam construction.

4. Check the full footprint before final placement

Leave room for walking paths, doors and nearby tables. Viva’s current foam-filled chair is approximately 38 W × 36 D × 30 H in., with a footrest around 22 W × 18 D × 14 H in., so plan for both pieces together.

5. Follow the fabric-care label

For everyday care, remove surface dust and address small spills promptly using a method permitted by the product label. Unless the exact instructions confirm that the cover is removable or machine washable, do not present either as a guaranteed feature. Avoid saturating the foam.

6. Recheck the chair over time

Periodically look for damage to seams or upholstery and keep the seat away from heat, open flame and other conditions prohibited by the supplied instructions.
